WWDC 2008, The 3G is in the House

We have just shown a few pictures taken during 2008’s WWDC held in California. While a picture does tell 1000 stories, I will break down the main features of the new iPhone, the 3G version.

* the 8GB 3G iPhone comes in a full plastic black back while the 16GB 3G iphone will be available in white; no significant size change, but it’s thinner at the edges
* 3.5 inch display, 2 megapixels camera and flush headphone jack
* 3G support, with 3G being twice as fast as EDGE (21s vs 59s) and almost as fast as WiFi (17s)
* 3G iPhone will be 36% faster when loading web pages than main a Nokia N95 or a Treo 750
* New battery with 300 hours standby time, 10 hours 2G talk time, 5 hours 3G talk time, 5-6 hours browsing time and 7 or 24 hours for video or audio
* Assisted GPS from cell towers, from WiFi, and now we get it from GPS
* Microsoft Exchange and Cisco support
* access to third party support and SDK
* availability in 70 countries. That red map indicates all countries in which there’s a carrier ready to deliver 3G iPhone plans by the end of the year
* 22 countries are getting it simultaneously on July 11th
* the price has taken a huge drop fr $599 to $399 and not the 8GB will be only $199 with a 2 year plan, while the 16GB will come to $299.

So there you have it. In short that’s what Steve Jobs explained right at the end of his presentation. Looking back at previous rumors, we are happy to see there’s 3G and GPS; the price is going to be subsidized worldwide which makes the iPhone 2 cheaper than the first iPhone; there are two colors, black and white, but there’s no red; there’s only one camera, and there’s no video calls support yet; there isn’t a 32GB version yet; there are lots of applications and a vast SDK support; there are lots of third party apps and lots of games for this iPhone; the battery is improved and if 3G is what you wanted, it will support 3G; there aren’t significant size changes.

What else would you like to know? Stay tunned, we have even more news coming up!
