How Apple could sell more than 10 million iphones before year end

Apple target for this year is to sell 10 million iphones, but with more than 5.4 million iPhones sold already this is an easy target, but why sell 10 millions when you can sell 15?

Apple has been signing carriers all over the world in order to have the iphone in hand of millions, Orange, Telefonica (O2) and others are ready to deploy the bigger launch ever for the a mobile phone and the time is the best, the new version of the iphone (2.0) is rumored to be on the street the first week of june, coinciding with the complete deployment of AT&T 3G Network. But wait, the next Developer Conference is sold out and what it means is that there will be a bigger iphone developer base ready to provide all the applications needed on the market. There will be more business applications from Apple and third parties, Microsoft Exchange connectivity, push email, centralized server and a more robust and powerful iphone to tackle the competitors. Even Blackberry is rumored to be preparing its Mail application and server to ported to the iPhone, IBM is commited to bring some of their well known applications, Yahoo, Google and Microsoft is thinking about some kind of Office-iPhone interaction.

Apple has done its homework, there isn’t any complain about how the iPhone works and those from the past are already forgotten, the iPhone is more than a smartphone, it is what the Newton was intended, it is a platform. A platform where every single programmer can create marvel, take games for example, there are hundred of games for the iphone without and SDK from Apple, there are Nintendo emulators, Playstation emulators, Sega Emulators and native games that have nothing to fear from PSP or any other mobile gaming platform.

So, is it possible to reach 10 million iPhones this year? Of course, the iPhone will be launched in Korea, Japan, China, Latin American and Africa this year, all the carriers and distributors are already signed, the enterprise ready iphone is 2 weeks from now and as Apple uses to do, there must be a price drop and an upgrade in the pipeline or maybe an iPhone Nano (Mini), a non 3G iphone with smaller screen, less specs to compete with cheaper smartphones and have more penetration on the market.

The iPhone has been a home run to win the World Series, a polished, well marketed and always upgrading device that will give a run for its money to the actual smartphones on the market and will set the bar higher for the future generation of mobile devices.

Long live the iPhone, long live the Newton.
