The iPhone applications survivor kit: what you need to have (part 1)

Applications for the iphone and ipod touch are growing like bad grass, faster than you can kill it and every single day you notice new and amazing services, tools and utilities for this new platform. We collected a bunch of them, those that we believe are the most important ones to hang out… In the next part we will add business related applications. Please notice that this applications can damage your iphone, a fresh restore could help but act wisely, we are not affiliated with the designers/programmers or vendors of these applications, we only provide this list as an recommendation, we are not receiving any kind of endorsement from their respective owners. We really don’t know them, but appreciate their time.
WIF, INTERNET AND NETWORK
GOOGLE MOBILE APPLICATIONS FOR THE IPHONE
Google announced the release of a new iPhone application that integrates its multiple services into a single interface, making it easy for iPhone users to find, use and switch between Google search, Gmail, Calendar, Reader, and more. To use the application, iPhone users simply point their web browser to http://www.google.com.
To accomplish this, Google is taking advantage of browser technologies (like AJAX) that made Gmail and Google Maps possible on the desktop. In supporting these advances in web technology, the iPhone’s Safari browser not only delivers an excellent mobile Internet experience; it enabled our product and engineering teams to create an optimal Google experience on a mobile device.
Google’s overall goal is to provide users with access to information, wherever they are. This commitment is device-independent, and we are working to develop new mobile technologies that are faster, easier to use, and available on more devices. A recent example is My Location (http://google.com/gmm/mylocation.html), a Google Maps for mobile feature that shows users their location directly on the map with or without GPS. To see the full range of mobile products and services available from Google, visit http://mobile.google.com.

SMS
SMSD iPhone SMS Delete And Forwarding Application
This application much like Wetool addresses some of the shortcomings of the SMS messaging application on the iPhone. The major features which are included on SMSD which Apple has neglected to add are deletion of individual messages, forwarding of SMS messages to groups of people and a built in character counter. The application is at version 0.09 but apparently seems stable in regards to the advertised features.
Features
Delete individual messages
Different views for incoming and outgoing messages
Templates
Backup all message through mail.
Compose new messages. (Apple got this right.)
Reply to messages. (Well, Apple did not miss this one.)
Forward messages.
Support for concatenated SMS (long SMS).
Send/Forward messages to multiple contacts.
Character counter.
Send Contact Information through message.
To install manually:
Put the extracted zip dir (SMSD.app) in /Applications on iPhone. From v0.09 onwards, you will also have to copy com.amrut.iphone.SMSD.plist to /Library/LaunchDaemons. And last but not the least, dont forget to set executable permissions for SMSD and SMSDNotifier files.

weTool For The iPhone
Aaron Jang has released weTool, a native iPhone application that enables you to delete individual sms and call entries along with the ability to forward SMS messages to multiple recipients, a feature that Apple hasn’t implemented as of yet. It also gives you an option to save your sms messages to your notepad and the transition effects between switching screens is pretty cool. The download is only available as a pxl file on hackint0sh Now available on Installer. Point Safari at or add Source via Installer at http://app.weiphone.com/installer/. Two downloads are below with the first download having a circular rotation transition between screens and the second having a page flip transition effect. Let Aaron Jang know which transition effect you like better on the poll so maybe you can influence him to incorporate it in his newer release. According to Aaron, he’s got more than 15 different page transitions. Hopefully those will be available on future releases. V0.3.7.1 now available with 17 different user selectable transitions along with a different menu system.
