Directed Graph Software Releases iLEVELi 2.1 for iPhone and iPod Touch
Michigan City, Indiana – Directed Graph Software LLC today is happy to announce iLEVELi 2.1, an update to their versatile inclinometer utility for iPhone and iPod Touch. Designed specifically for the iPhone’s delightful user experience, iLEVELi simulates a spirit level allowing the user to focus on the measurement of slopes and angles referenced to gravity. iLEVELi’s user interface strives toward the accepted principles of data presentation championed by American statistician Edward Tufte.
Perfect for architects, carpenters, contractors and home-use alike, iLEVELi 2.1 brings a metrology-driven approach to the measurement of slopes on the iPhone and iPod Touch, with access to calibration constants and measurement uncertainty. An equatorial line indicates a null slope in the vertical dimension in Landscape and Portrait orientations (plumb), and helps when hanging doors and shelving.
Version 2.1 uses more refined digital signal processing techniques for faster measurements and calibration, and improved sensitivity to perturbations. The application uses a combination of Finite Impulse Response (FIR) and Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filters. The FIR approach provides snappier response for the user, and better sensitivity to minor disturbances.
iLEVELi happily works in Landscape, Portrait, and Face Up Modes. Optionally, it tracks changes in the device orientation, and switches to Landscape, Portrait, or Face Up Display Modes accordingly. Users can choose to capture measurements instantly at a touch, or use a perturbation-sensitive way to capture measurements. Every touch to the device can perturb its built-in accelerometer, and the capture waits for disturbances to settle. In many cases, iLEVELi permits one-handed operation, with good accuracy and precision.
Feature Highlights:
* ADA Compliance
* User Interface strives toward accepted principles of data presentation
* Perturbation-Sensitive
* Includes a movie with English and Spanish subtitles that demonstrate the calibration procedure
* Measures slopes in Landscape, Portrait, and Face-Up modes
* Optionally tracks changes in the device orientation
* Equatorial line indicates a null slope in the vertical dimension in Landscape and Portrait orientations
* Offers the choice between dark-on-light and light-on-dark display for better readability
“Anything worth doing is worth doing right, and that goes for the job of instrumenting the iPhone’s accelerometer,” said Don Briggs, founder and CEO of Directed Graph Software LLC. “Users should have access to an instrument’s calibration constants and some estimate of the uncertainty in its measurements.”
iLEVELi lets its users check for ADA Compliance. An optional rise:run display lets carpenters, contractors and architects check for compliance to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and building codes, in either the 1:x or x:12 format. Access to the calibration constants and measurement uncertainty give the user confidence in the results.
iLEVELi embraces accepted principles of data presentation championed by American statistician Edward Tufte, with a no-nonsense, no “ducks,” focus on presenting measurements sensibly.”
The application includes a movie with English and Spanish subtitles that demonstrates the calibration procedure. Calibration takes just 60 seconds. After calibration, the gains, offsets, and standard deviations for the accelerometer’s three channels are available on the flip side view. Additionally, iLEVELi offers the choice between dark-on-light and light-on-dark display, for better readability under different conditions of ambient light.
Supported Languages:
* US English and Spanish
System Requirements:
* iPhone or iPod touch 3.0 or later
Pricing and Availability:
iLEVELi 2.1 is only $0.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Utilities category. Review copies are available upon request.
